What is T20 Cricket?
Twenty20, also known as T20, is the shortest format of cricket. Needless to say, it is highly watched, appreciated and enjoyed by cricket enthusiasts worldwide. Despite its short duration, it is very exciting and unpredictable, making it one of the most entertaining formats of the game. Indeed, the element of unforeseeability in this cricket format brings a unique sense of thrill and enticement.
As the name suggests, the game consists of 20 overs. In T20 cricket, each team has only 120 legitimate deliveries to play, which makes the game very intense. Batters are always looking to score big by hitting boundaries, resulting in some massive individual scores. Thus, each side must aim to score a hefty sum of runs within their 20 overs or before they lose their wickets.
With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 right around the corner, the hype for this gameplay format is increasing. Needless to say, cricket enthusiasts and betting devotees are gearing up as well because the T20 format brings an exciting experience to all its viewers.
The Success of T20 Female Cricketers
In recent years, the popularity of T20 cricket has helped women’s cricket to grow significantly. It is not an alienated concept that women are now more frequently and boldly opting to play the sport. Gone are the days when ‘women on the field’ were frowned upon. Women’s T20 cricket debuted at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham and was featured at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, gaining international recognition.
Argentina’s Lucia Taylor currently holds the record for the highest individual score in women’s T20 cricket. She achieved this by scoring 169 runs off just 84 balls against Chile Women in a bilateral series match held in Buenos Aires on October 13, 2023.
Before Taylor, the record was held by Deepika Rasangika, a former Sri Lankan cricketer who now plays for Bahrain. Rasangika had scored an unbeaten 161 runs against UAE, becoming the first batter to score 150 runs in one inning in women’s T20 internationals.
Harmanpreet Kaur holds the record for the highest score by an Indian player in women’s T20 cricket, which is 103 runs off just 51 deliveries. Her innings included seven fours and eight sixes, and she achieved this feat against New Zealand in Providence, West Indies in November 2018.
Numerous successful female cricketers are currently living the once unattainable dream. Due to the stigma in the society of that era, women would face obstacles but that never stopped them.

Meg Lanning, also known as “the Megastar,” has achieved an incredible amount in her cricket career. She has been a member of seven world championship campaigns, winning two Women’s Cricket World Cups and five ICC Women’s World Twenty20 titles. 9. T20 Female Cricketers – Hayley Matthews Hailing from West Indies
Hayley Matthews had an early start in cricket and was always keen on learning the sport. Moreover, she was already captaining her boys’ school team at the age of 11 and made her debut for the Barbados senior women’s team when she was just 12 years old. Despite being successful in track and field, where she won a gold medal for javelin at the 2015 CARIFTA Games, she chose cricket and made her international debut in September 2014 in a Twenty20 match against New Zealand.
Luckily, Matthews’ ODI debut wasn’t far behind as she played against Australia. She made a remarkable start, scoring 55 runs in the first game thus, she became West Indies’ highest scorer with a total of 241 runs in the four-match series. Her off-breaks were also quite effective. In her first international match, she took the wicket of Meg Lanning, the Australian captain, and went on to take 3 for 26 in that game which was certainly a hit. Matthews was the highest wicket-taker from either side in both the ODIs and T20Is series during West Indies’ 2015 tour of Sri Lanka.
Additionally, in the second T20I of their tour to Australia, West Indies women chased down 212 runs against the hosts at Sydney with ease, thanks to captain Hayley Matthews’ remarkable century. Matthews scored 132 runs off just 64 balls, with a total of 20 fours and five sixes, certainly leaving the crowd in awe.
